Going home tomorrow. This is San Francisco at twilight from Potrero Hill. A little blurry due to lack of tripod, but still gives you the idea of how beautiful this city can look.

Things I’m thankful for

I always try to think on Thanksgiving about what I’m thankful for (or in the case of this post, several days before Thanksgiving). It’s something I don’t do enough, so I appreciate there’s a holiday scheduled to remind me to do this.

This year here’s what I’m most thankful for:

1. I’m going to spend the rest of my life with the guy I love. There’s no uncertainty, no needing a next step, there’s a very solid happiness in my life because of this everyday.

2. The people I love for the most part are healthy. Not everyone is doing perfectly, but overall we’re doing pretty well (honestly this is one of those that I feel obligated to list, peer pressure on what to be thankful for).

3. I have a job I like! (Selfishly this is probably #2, but again, the whole societal peer pressure on my thankful list). Last year I was jobless, sunk in depression, and not sure where my life was headed. This year I have a job I like, coworkers I look forward to seeing, and a company I enjoy being a part of. I can’t tell you how happy it makes me the difference between this November and last.

4. I don’t have to work at Macy’s over the holidays (see above). I had a holiday job at Macy’s last year and am SO thankful I don’t have to work there this year. People are selfish, rude, and often mean when they shop over the holidays. Dealing with that, constant Christmas music, coworker drama, and untangling necklaces was pretty miserable. BE NICE TO YOUR SALESPEOPLE WHEN YOU SHOP. And for the love of god, put it away neatly after you try it on, look at it, etc. $9.75 an hour is not good money.

5. The kitties. They drive me crazy often, but I’m grateful I have them. Right now one of them is cuddling my arm and the other is cuddling me feet. Four years in college without a pet to call my own, it makes me very happy I’ve got these two guys to come home to.

Happy Thanksgiving

Two Truths & A Lie

The theme of my work’s weekly Toastmaster’s club this past week was “Bullshit”. Two Truths and a Lie was brought up, but not actually pursued. Here’s what mine would have been:

I’ve fed a wild alligator by hand

I’ve pet a tiger

I’ve pet a baby moose

Meet Boudreau. I went fishing in Louisiana with A and his Dad & Brother. It was fantastic fishing by the way, if you like to fish, go to Louisiana. When we got back to the docks our guide cleaned and gutted the fish for us and his buddy Boudreau showed up looking for scraps. We estimated that Boudreau was around 12ft, definitely had his feet on the ground while eating from my hands. It would not have been nice if he’d decided to eat my arm, but I get this kind of behavior from my Dad. If it has to do with an animal and it sounds cool, I’ll do it. A was less than thrilled by this adventure. **My one exception to this are sharks, I have no desire to have any interaction with sharks.

I also have pet a baby moose that was about the size of a German Shepherd. A friend worked at a vet office and someone found the baby so they took it in and would let it out for short amounts of time in hopes it would find it’s Mom and not get eatten. It was super soft and heartrenching. Unfortunately I don’t have any photos.

I haven’t pet a tiger YET, but on my ‘bucket list’ is going to the tiger temple in Thailand. A is also less than thrilled with this plan.

I’m Leaving on a Jet Plane

Monday night to spend thanksgiving in Vermont with my family (and these guys below). Already prepared to be incredibly pissed at dealing with new TSA stuff. Haven’t we learned anything in the last 10 years? NO DIGITAL NAKED PHOTOS, IT ONLY ENDS IN SHAME (by the way if you weren’t aware, they’ve already had a scanner leak complete with photos of the people’s actual faces:

Dunce Cap

It’s been a busy week so my writing has been sorely neglected. It has however, allowed me enough time to get over the face that Tumblr destroyed my last entry and rewrite it.

The other night I was looking for my transcript for something. I spent at least 30min foraging through our paper drawers. These are not drawers made out of paper, they’re drawers filled with bank statements, insurance info, student loan docs, love notes, cute cards etc. We have a filing cabinet that A bought a year ago, but have not made much use out of it yet unfortunately.

I finally found my transcript and sat down for an unenthusiastic look. As I checked out my trimester GPAs I started feeling better about myself. I totally did better than I thought my last year of college. I can justify the lackluster GPA since I obviously did better as I matured. I continue to scan and am feeling more and more pleasantly surprised with my numbers.

Wow, I totally did better than I thought, it must have been that D in Spanish that brought me down. A couple screw ups Freshmen year, but overall I was a good student! Then I get to the AP credit section and my thought it “uh oh”. I didn’t have any AP credits (my high school made me take gym instead of AP English, thanks for that Rochester High School, those extra rounds of dodgeball have really helped me in life). I’m looking at quite a few AP credits listed and I get a very sinking feeling and look up at the header on the page. Yep, it’s my fiance’s transcript (we went to the same college). Crap.

I spent the rest of the night in shame after feeling so indignant and self righteous about my academic history.

Friday Favs: BLOG STYLE

Here are some of my favorite blogs:

I’ve been reading this for 6yrs now. My favorite is Kitty Love (Winston is an adorable alien), but it’s Rich’s clever and sarcastic writing style that makes me love it. He covers a variety of topics, mostly of the pop culture variety and puts a lot time and love into it.

Post Secret

I’ve been reading this one for about 9yrs now. My freshmen roomate introduced me and I have read it almost weekly ever since. It’s inspirational, sad, uplifting, heartbreaking, and everything in between. I went to one of the lectures with a friend a few years ago and it actually took our friendship to another level.

Birthday Girl Blog

My friend Becca started this about a year and a half ago and it’s great. It’s all things birthday and includes some amazing recipes and tons of feel good imagery and ideas.

My 10k Wedding

A former coworker of mine who started this blog for her own wedding and has created a wedding planning business thanks to her design and organization talent. She has great recomendations for money saving ways to plan a beautiful wedding, plus inspirational stories and images from her own and ones she’s helped plan

I read this one the most, having sworn off Perez Hilton and a friend recommended this. I’ve been Perez free since he got punched by the Black Eyed Peas manager (best thing they’ve ever contributed to society). Jezebel is the lady version of Gawker, focusing on celeb, style, politics, etc. I don’t always agree with them, in face I get pretty pissed sometimes by their posts, but I love their commenter community. There’s always clever responses and insightful conversations below each post that makes the site work visiting.
